Happy Holidays from the Nevada Golf Industry Alliance

From the desk of Eric Dutt, President

NOTE: One of the Alliance’s key fundraising events is the Nevada Golf Industry Alliance’s annual Social Mixer at Southern Highlands on Saturday, January 4th from 6:00 – 8:00. See below to RSVP and support.

I wanted to take a brief moment and update you on some of the activities that our allied associations undertook in 2019 as well as some more timely items from the Nevada Golf Industry Alliance.

As I reported in an earlier newsletter, various members of the Board of Directors traveled to Carson City during the 2019 Legislative sessions to meet with various politicians on proposed legislation that, had it passed could have had negative implications for the Nevada golf industry. Our lobbyist, Alfredo Alonso continues to play a key part in keeping us informed and educated on the political climate and potential legislation that we need to fight as an industry.

The Nevada Golf Industry Alliance recently hosted a Cocktail Reception on December 12th for Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro and the Democratic Party at TPC Las Vegas with myself and fellow Board of Directors board member Greg Brockelman, President of the Las Vegas Chapter, Southwest Section, PGA of America, attending and having the opportunity to chat with Senator Cannizzaro and her team on the recently completed Nevada Golf Economic Impact Study and what the golf industry generates on an annual basis in the form of jobs, taxes, out of state visitors, etc. This figure totals direct economic impact of $1.242 BILLION with secondary and tertiary activity that resulted in:

$1.981 BILLION of direct, indirect, and induced economic output

17,505 direct, indirect, and induced jobs

$701.3 million in wages and benefits and

$138.6 million in state and local tax revenue

The Alliance will continue to work to educate Nevada legislators on the importance of the golf industry in Nevada and we will be holding two Nevada Golf Days for politicians in the early part of 2020 to further this goal.

ANNUAL FUNDRAISER DETAILS – Jan. 4

Golf facilities with General Managers, Department Heads and their guest may attend for a cost of $500 per facility. Vendors may also attend for the same cost. For more information you can email me at [email protected] or call Nikki Paloma at Southern Highlands at 702-263-1000. All funds raised go to the Alliance’s Carson City lobbying costs as Southern Highlands donates all food and beverage for the evening.

We will be sending out a communication right after the first of the year on annual dues ($250) or a couple other ways your golf facility can support the Alliance’s efforts in 2020.
